Contact Lenses in Portsmouth, Hampshire

Contact lens technology continues to advance at a rapid rate, giving just about anyone the opportunity to wear contact lenses nowadays – even people that may have been previously unsuccessful.

Lenses fall into two main categories - Soft Contact Lenses and Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses. Within these categories are many variations including Contact lenses to correct Astigmatism, Extended Wear or Continuous Wear Contact Lenses and Multifocal or Bifocal Contact Lenses.

Soft Contact Lenses

This lens type remains the first choice for many people as they are easy to adapt to. The immediate comfort of modern soft lenses is superb, with all day wear achievable for many people from day one! The latest technology uses a material called Silicon Hydrogel which offers many health benefits to the eye. Soft contact lenses are available to correct most prescriptions including presbyopia (Multifocal/Bifocal), Astigmatism (Toric) and can be supplied in many different ways including daily disposable, weekly, twice monthly, monthly and longer-term.

Chromagen lenses are a unique range of specially tinted soft contact lenses that can be worn to correct colour deficiency. For many ‘colour blind’ people the improvement can be dramatic and life changing, allowing shades of colour, previously unseen, to be observed for the first time.

Gas Permeable Contact Lenses

This lens type was widely prescribed in the 1970’s and 1980’s, becoming less popular with the advent of soft disposable contact lenses. However, with the onset of some high tech materials and designs, these lenses are set to make a huge comeback. Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses give unrivalled vision clarity for many people and modern designs can be as comfortable as a soft lens.
These lens types can also be especially suited to those people with a more complex prescription giving excellent results.  As with soft lenses, they can be used for most prescriptions including multifocal/bifocal and the correction of astigmatism.

Ortho Keratology

Ortho Keratology Vision Correction in Portsmouth

Ortho K is a vision correction therapy that provides clear, comfortable vision without the need to wear contact lenses during the day. No more restrictions on how long you wear your lenses, no more irritation in dry, smoky environments or at the end of a long day.

Ortho K is ideal for low-mid short sighted people who:

  • Want clear natural vision all day - every day

  • Find soft contact lenses do not fulfill the comfort demands their life-style places on their eyes

  • Are involved in recreational and sports activities where periods without wearing contact lenses is ideal

  • Have considered refractive surgery because of the freedom it provides, but are   worried about the risks

  • How is this possible?  Ortho K is a specially designed contact lens that reverses the power of the cornea (the front of the eye) during overnight wear. Once the full effect has taken place, the eye is effectively ‘normal’ and can see clearly during the day.

  • With Ortho K you will benefit from:

  • Freedom from contact lenses and glasses during the day

  • Very easy adaptation, only overnight lens wear required

  • A comfortable, semi-permanent alternative for the correction of short sightedness

  • A safe and reversible vision correction therapy without surgery
